Inspiring Moments That Transcend Sports
By Adam Powell
Sometimes the best communications is through actions rather than words.
In the case of sportsmen and women, this is particularly true when the best grace the stage and deliver joy and inspiration about their sport in ways that journalists and PR people can never achieve.
The sad losses of Kevin Keegan and Gary Sobers in July 2026 is a reminder of this. Both elevated their sports to the highest levels, reaching far wider audiences than their traditional base through their flair, passion and accomplishments.
Whether it was Sober’s hitting six sixes in an over in 1968 - a feat still talked about today - or Keegan winning back-to-back Ballon D’Ors in the late 70s or his swashbuckling Newcastle United side two decades later, they were exceptional in showing the power of sport to entertain and inspire.
Their passing is an enduring and poignant reminder of the power of ‘moments’ in sport.
